It's one of my favorite times of the year. Right around this time--around my younger brother's birthday--we get to experience the Perseid's Meteor shower. If you have time and are able to stay up late, then go outside and look up. NOW. The Perseids are supposed to peak on the the evening of the 11th/morning of the 12th, with the best display during the hours after midnight. And the moon is apparently cooperating... less night light to dim the view.
As Space.com says:
"Patient skywatchers with good conditions could see up to 60 shooting stars an hour or more."
AND
"According to the best estimates, in 2010 the Earth is predicted to cut through the densest part of the Perseid stream sometime around 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday."
